What I am now DID NOT EXIST when I was growing up I was the editor of my high school newspaper and went to college thinking I wanted to be a journalist. When I became editor-in-chief of my college newspaper I realized I wasn t fat enough to have a journalism career. I then became the director of marketing for a fast-fat company when social media was just taking hold for businesses.
After about six years as a marketing director I started to get burned out. My grandmother had a stroke and I had an epiphany of life is short . If you don t try you ve mobile number list already failed. One day as I was driving my son home from Toys R Us I thought back to how horrible my experience at the toy store was. Thinking back to kindergarten I thought to myself That was so awful - why would I ever have wanted a toy store? Then it hit me like a brick. It wasn t that I wanted a toy store. It was that I wanted to share what I loved with other people. In kindergarten that was a toy.
The owner wanted his business to be on every platform every social outlet all over the web and have a huge website . So I learned everything I could. Mostly by teaching myself – which is how I learned web design graphic design and at least of my skills. But as an adult it solved problems in the digital world. So at that point I started the process of opening Girl Geek. The rapid lubricant company became my first customer and is still with me. I ve worked with everyone from local plumbers to celebrities. I love learning about all kinds of industries and people. My only regret is that I didn t do it sooner.
